Afriyie Barnie and Richard Atta earn Black Stars call up

Hearts of Oak duo Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Richard Atta have earned a call up into senior National Team Black Stars.

The two players have been called up by Coach C.K Akonnor for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

A total of thirty (30) players have been called by for the qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia both coming off in September.

Barnieh and Atta were so instrumental in Hearts of
Oak’s double winning season. They were very influential when the Phobians won
the 2020/ 2021 Ghana Premier after eleven (11) years of trophy drought. They
also went on to win the MTN FA Cup by beating Obuasi Ashgold 6-5 on penalties.

Other local players who have been given a chance to
play for the team are Abdul Ganyiu of Asante Kotoko and Philemon Baffour of
Dreams FC. Surprisingly, Steadfast FC’s Isshaku Fatawu has been given a call
irrespective of his club being in Division One.

South Africa based Richard Ofori also makes a return
into the team after missing out through injury for eleven (11) months.

Captain Andre Dede Ayew will lead the team to play
against Ethiopia on September 3rd, 2021 at Cape Coast Stadium and then face
South Africa at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on September, 6th.
