2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES – Benjamin Azamati fails to win a medal in the 100m finals
Ghana’s 100 meters runner Benjamin Azamati has placed fourth in the finals of the 100m race in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The determined Ghanaian athlete ran a time of 10.16 seconds which was an improved time on his semi- finals clocking.
The 24-year-old sprinter expressed his disappointment after failing to win a medal at the competition. He admitted his poor start let him down.
Azamati came third in the semi- finals 3 with a time of 10.18 seconds. Meanwhile he came first in the heats after clocking a time of 10.19 in heat 7.
Meanwhile his compatriot Sean Sarfo- Antwi could not make it to finals after placing 5th in the semi-finals. He clocked a time of 10.36 seconds in Semi-final 2.
The finals took place today at the Birmingham Athletics Arena where the games are taking place.
It was won by Ferdinand Omayanla of Kenya with a time of 10.02 seconds. South Africa’s Akine Simbine came second with 10.13 seconds followed by Yupun Abeykoon of Sri Lanka.
Ghana is yet to record any medal at this year’s Commonwealth games. The short distance runners are yet to compete in the 4*100 relay. There are high hopes of winning at least bronze medal
Meanwhile Australia now tops the medal table with 123 medals. 46 gold, 38 silver and 39 bronze medals. England follows with 103 medals. 38 gold, 37 silver and 28 for bronze. Canada is also positioned at number three with a total of 57 medals. They have 16 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 21 bronze medals.
