WHINING Spanish midfielder Rodri was gifted a consolation prize at the Spanish embassy today – after the sore loser branded Steve Clarke’s heroes “rubbish” in the wake of our famous victory.

The Scottish Sun’s Tartan Army man visited the Europeans’ base in Edinburgh and left staff with tissues, a dummy, a get well soon card and some biccies to comfort the moany Man City ace.

It came as Hampden legends Ally McCoist and Alex McLeish were among footie heroes who joined fans to give the player pelters over his moaning TV interview after being gubbed 2-0.

Super Ally said: “I thought we were just a wee bit too physical for Rodri.

“Bless his wee Spanish heart.

“He’s a good player but he can cope with the physical side of the game no bother so the irony of him talking about the physicality of Scotland is not lost on me.

“Man alive, Hampden was jumping. That was nothing short of fantastic! It really was.

“And do you know something? I can say it now, I would’ve said it earlier, but we weren’t really in any danger.”

Former Scotland striker Kris Boyd hit back at Rodri’s comments, comparing his behaviour to that of a baby.

He said: “I hope Pep has some new dummies for Rodri when he gets back to Manchester City because he spat them out last night, that’s for sure.

“I get that they’re disappointed that they’ve lost the game, but Scotland were deserved winners.

“It wasn’t a fluke.”

And former Scotland manager Alex McLeish said: “Come on, get a grip guys, just eat the humble pie and say the better team won on the night.

“Scotland won deservedly and Spain should just eat that pie and get on with it.”

£63m Rodri accused Scotland of time-wasting and provocation after Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay hit a double to earn Scotland their first win over Spain in 39 years.

The former World Cup winners had not been beaten in Euro qualifying since 2014, winning 34 of their last 38 matches.

But after a humbling by Andy Robertson and co Rodri spat the dummy out.

The 26-year-old griped: “We did many good things to win. We conceded easy goals – this is football, if you concede easy goals you are penalised.

“It’s the way they play, but for me it’s rubbish, always wasting time, provoking you, always they fall.

“For me, this is not football.

“The referee has to take on this, but he says nothing.

“We will learn for the next time.

“We want to go for duels, for battles – we always fight, but this is not about fighting.

“It’s about wasting time – four, or five players on the floor, but this depends on the referee, not on us.

“Today we did many good things, but what’s important is the goal, and we didn’t score.”

Fortunately the good-natured staff at the Consulate were much more amicable, receiving our parcel with a “Thanks, that is so kind of you.”
