We’re only 16 but already being tipped as new Ronnie O’Sullivan and could be youngest players to appear at Crucible

TEENAGERS Stan Moody and Liam Davies will try to become the youngest people to play at the Crucible World Snooker Championship.

Moody, a 16-year-old part-timer from Halifax, is one of 16 WPBSA qualifiers who will be involved in qualifying next month at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

This is the reward for him winning the WSF Junior Championship last month in Sydney, Australia.

Moody, nicknamed The Action, has also earned a two-year World Snooker Tour card from the start of the 2023-24 season.

And he has been tipped to win titles in the future by reigning world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan after the pair played last week at the Six Reds World Championships in Thailand.

Welsh kid Davies – who is also 16 – tried his luck to make the Crucible Theatre in April 2022.

The amateur won his opening two matches but fell to Jordan Brown in the penultimate qualifier.

The youngest player record could also be surpassed this year if Hungarian Bulcsu Revesz, who is 16, wins four matches in a row.

Belgian Luca Brecel qualified for the 2012 world championships aged 17 years 45 days, which eclipsed the record set by Stephen Hendry 1986.

The Crucible action kicks-off on Saturday April 15.

However, the build-up has been overshadowed by the suspension of ten Chinese players as part of an ongoing match-fixing probe.

O’Sullivan will be looking to lift the trophy for the eighth time and make it back-to-backs wins after his emotional victory last year when he beat Judd Trump in the final.
