The ban on Hashimi Musa, the whistle blower, fair or unfair ?

There has been much debate about the ban imposed on Hashmi Musa who blew the whistle on the fix match. He is the pivot on which the controversial fixed match revolves.

Hashmi scored two own goals to make it 7-0 in the said match to spoil the 5-1 score line fixed for the match. The incident happened in July 2021 during the week 34 meeting between Ashanti gold and Inter Allies.

In the wake of the various sanctions given out by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association, the defender has been given six months ban. He was also warned not to take the law into his own hands in such matters but report to the appropriate quarters.

He was initially given 24 months ban but was reduced on appeal for his special role in revealing the plot. His own goals drew attention of the media personnel who covered the match. This also called for the GFA’s investigation into the matter.

In the ruling released on Monday, May 16, 2022, the committee sated that Hashmi should have informed the GFA when he got the information of the match been fixed.

There have been public outcry in the media calling for the defender to go scot free without any punishment. Some argue that not every player can hold that confidence to do what Hashmi did.

He is currently playing for US Gendarmerie national in Nigeria.

Other players involved in the case have also suffered various bans. Some players of Ashgold and Inter Allies have been given 24 months ban. Kotoko’s midfielder Peter Lamptey who played for Inter Allies is also affected.

both clubs have also been relegated into Division Two league starting in the up coming season. The have been given fines of One Hundred Thousdand Cedis each.
