Richard Ofori misses chance to win CAF Confederation Cup

Ghana’s Goalkeeper Richard Ofori could not save his Orlando Pirates side as they lost the 2022 CAF Confederations Cup. RS Berkane of Morocco beat the South African side lost 4-5 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regulation time.

Richard was in post for Orlando pirates but could not save of of the shoots from Berkane. The Ghanaian Goalkeeper produced a stunning performance to get his team so close to the trophy.

Both sides failed to produce any goal with in the stipulated 90 mins of action. It was on the 97th minute when Berkane got their goal through Youssef El Fahli. The penalty was given after consultation on the Video Assistant Referee. Monare fouled Mokadem from a corner and the Pirates man was adjudged to have swept down Mokadem inside the box. Richard Ofori could have little answer to the kick as he was sent the wrong way.

Pirates fought hard to get back onto the game. Thembinkosi Lorch then got the equalizer on the 117th minute for Orlando Pirates. Goalkeeper Hamiani failed to deal with intended pass which found its way diverted into his post.

Both sides failed to convert the numerous chances created. Pirates piled pressure on their opponents but could not go past their defensive line.

Thembinkosi then moved from a hero to villain after he was the only player to miss his penalty during the shootout.

This is Berkane’s second time of winning the trophy after winning it for the first time in 2020. They lost the final in 2019. Meanwhile Orlando Pirates have missed out again after failing to win in 2015.
