PUNTERS have been told to remember the name Asadna – after the George Boughey-trained colt absolutely demolished rivals on debut.

Purchased at the breeze-ups for 160,000 guineas last month, this son of Mehmas scorched the turf over six furlongs at Ripon.

He’s powered away!

Will Buick never had to get serious in the saddle as Asadna won by 12 lengths, crushing opposition with such ease viewers joked he was ‘looking for ice cream at the end’.

On a serious note, Asadna’s jaw-dropping debut is easy to put into context.

Boffins Timeform had him recording a 109 timefigure in the race.

Only Aidan O’Brien’s Caravaggio has ever recorded a higher number prior to Royal Ascot since 2010.

The bullet sprinter was given a figure of 115 in 2016 – before going onto win the Coventry, beating, as luck would have it, Asadna’s dad Mehmas.

Asadna has been smashed into as short as 7-2 for that two-year-old blockbuster, with O’Brien’s River Tiber heading the market.

Wesley Ward’s US raider American Rascal is third fav but looks set to contend the Norfolk, while Paddy Twomey’s Noche Magica is fourth best at around 7-1.

They will alll have to go some way to make a splash of the sort Asadna did, though.

Delighted Boughey told Racing Post: “He’s a lovely horse with a super mind and he was very well prepared at the breeze-ups.

“I didn’t expect him to win as well as he did today but we thought he’d run very well.

“He’ll go straight to the Coventry, that’s the obvious race for him, and it’s good to have another nice horse for owner Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah, who is a big supporter of the yard.”

Jockey Buick added: “He couldn’t have done any more than he did.

“It’s a tough track for a two-year-old, it’s very undulating.

“It caught him out early on but he managed to get himself as balanced as he could.

“It was first time out so there’s improvement there and he did it very well.”
