PUNTERS were left in despair as yet another jockey howler sparked uproar.

Joe Anderson appeared to mistake the half furlong marker for the winning post in a dramatic finish at Worcester.

His unforgivable error allowed Harry Cobden to charge up his outside and claim victory on 16-1 Dasher Riley.

It looked like Anderson’s Trolley Boy was getting the better of his rival with a matter of yards to go.

That was until Anderson stopped riding – before realising the race was not over.

Anderson, aboard the 11-10 fav for trainer Neil Mulholland, quickly dropped into the saddle and got back into a drive, but it was all too late.

Punters could not believe what they had seen – and were left moaning about another controversial ride.

Anderson’s howler comes hot on the heels of Rachael Blackmore’s now infamous Kilbeggan ride.

The trailblazing superstar appeared to go for home a circuit early on Lady Rita.

Stewards initially gave her a minor slap on the wrist – but now an investigation has been launched into the fiasco and a ban could be upcoming.

Another race in Ireland caused outrage when stewards refused to reverse placings after a final-flight collision.

The British stewards had a more cut and dry case with Anderson.

The official stewards’ report read: “Joe Anderson the rider of Trolley Boy, placed second beaten by half a length, appeared to mistake the half furlong marker for the winning post.

“After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Anderson was suspended for ten days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that could have finished first.”

Some punters were a bit less diplomatic in their wording.

One fuming fan said: “This happens way too much now.”

Another wrote: “I’ve been saying it for months now, but this is genuinely the worst this sort of thing has ever been.”

One called the blunder ‘shocker’ while another comment read: “Oh dear. Glad I wasn’t on Trolley Boy otherwise I would have been chucking the controller at the TV.”
