Newcastle United have caused pain for Arsenal FC and their fans after beating them at St James Park. The loss makes it more difficult for Arsenal to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Newcastle this evening as they were expected to win and affirm their position for Champions league. The Gunners now lose their advantage to city rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. Spurs are placed at 4th position with 68 points as Arsenal lag behind them with 66 points.

Newcastle players celebrate goal

On Sunday, Tottenham beat Burnley by a lone goal to move to fourth place with 68 points. Their win against Arsenal last week gave them the advantage.

Newcastle got all two goals in the second half of the game. Arsenal started on a brighter note as they looked promising to get through the tight Newcastle defence.

An own goal at the 56th minute by Ben White was enough to put Newcastle on the advantage. The Gunner miscalculated his clearance during a counter attack by Newcastle as the ball found its way into his own net. Arsenal piled more pressure on the Toffees to get an equalizer but that was not enough.

Their consistent attack left spaces for Newcastle to exploit periodically. Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale saved his side in sticky situations to keep hopes alive. Unfortunately, he could not hold his might against Bruno Guimearas.

Arteta’s side went down again on the 85th minute. The Gunners would have to wait on last day of matches to see if they can qualify. Tottenham will play away to relegated Norwich City whilst Arsenal welcome Everton at home.
