Manchester United Confirm Richard Arnold As New CEO

Manchester United has confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the club’s Executive Vice-Chairman, Ed Woodward, will step down from his role from the 1st of February 2022.

The English Premier League club, however, revealed that former group managing director, Richard Arnold, is taking over the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Club after Woodward’s exit, Naija News reports.

A statement sighted on the club’s official website today reads: “Manchester United has announced that Richard Arnold, formerly Group Managing Director, will become Chief Executive Officer of the Club, effective from 1st February 2022.

“Ed Woodward will step down from his role as Executive Vice-Chairman, also effective from 1st February 2022.”

Speaking at an interview with the club’s media moments after his appointment, Arnold said: “I’m honoured to have the chance to serve this great club and its fans. I’m determined to return that honour in any way I can.”

Naija News reports that Manchester United currently sits in the 7th position on the league table with 22 points behind top Manchester City, though with 2 outstanding.

The Red Devils would need to win their next match against Aston Villa to prove their readiness to end in the top four.

Meanwhile, league toppers Manchester City has been hit with a major COVID-19 crisis.

Reports made available on Thursday (today) confirmed that the club manager, Pep Guardiola and twenty other first-team members have tested positive for the dreaded disease and are now in isolation.

Guardiola’s assistant, Juanma Lillo also tested positive for the viral disease, Naija News understands.

Seven players of the club are said to be in isolation also ahead of Friday’s FA Cup tie at Swindon Town.
