Manchester City’s trip to Villa Park on Wednesday night was fruitful for the visiting team as they knocked Aston Villa 2-1.

Naija News reports that Pep Guardiola’s side took home 3 points from Steven Gerrard’s team to seat in second place on the English Premier League table.

Commending his players for a game well played in a post-match interview, Guardiola named Bernardo Silva as “the best”.

Silva had helped City to net their winning goal last night to match Ruben Dias 27th minute opener, Naija News understands.

Though Ollie Watkins had pulled a goal back for the hosts, but they could not find a leveller. Guardiola who was full of excitement for his team performance last night said: “He [Silva] is the best.

“He was the best two or three seasons ago. He was the best then too. He has a special ability to do whatever he wants with the ball. Against a good goalkeeper, it was an incredible finish.

“You have to go back to when we won with 98 points, review the videos, you will see the same player like this right now.”

Meanwhile, Manchester City forward, Jack Grealish says he came close to signing for rivals, Manchester United in 2020.

Naija News reports that the England international signed for Pep Guardiola’s side from Aston Villa for a record transfer fee of £100m.

The 26-year-old attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides after excelling in the Villa first-team since making his debut in May 2014.

He helped the club gain promotion to the top-flight in 2019 after a three-year absence and scored 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances under former manager Dean Smith following their return.

In an interview with Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, Grealish said he was targeted by former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the summer transfer window last year but no deal was struck.

He, however, said he decided to stay at Villa Park and signed a new long-term contract until 2025 which had a buyout clause of £100m.
