LIVERPOOL legend Dirk Kuyt has been sacked by ADO Den Haag just 176 days after taking charge.

The 42-year-old former Dutch international forward was appointed boss this summer.

That made him the fourth manager of the second tier outfit in Holland since Alan Pardew’s reign began in 2020.

However, following a nightmare start to the campaign, news outlet AD claims he has been axed.

The role was Kuyt’s first in the dugout but he led the Eerste Divisie club to their worst ever opening to a season, which saw him face a furious fan protest.

They lost their first three matches, conceding nine in the process, before he looked to have turned things around with victories over PEC Zwolle and FC Eindhoven.

But that proved to be a false dawn as they then went on a five-match winless run in which they dropped to 17th in the table.

And that has proven enough for ADO Den Haag to pull the trigger.

The club were relegated from the Eredivisie in the 2021 and almost sealed an instant return via the play-offs last term, only to suffer defeat in the play-offs after a fourth-placed finish.

Kuyt led them to just four wins from his 16 games at the helm.

No announcement has yet been made on who will replace him.

Kuyt joined Liverpool from Feyenoord in 2006 and his work-rate, plus a hat-trick against Manchester United, made him a huge favourite on the Kop.

He scored in the 2007 Champions League final as the Reds were defeated by AC Milan but he lifted the League Cup in 2012 before his departure to Fenerbahce that summer.

Kuyt did return to Feyenoord to finish his playing days at the top level before joining their coaching staff.
