Just In: Ex-Super Eagles Press Officer, Ben Alaiya Is Dead – [Photos]

A former Press Officer for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Ben Alaiya, has died.

Reports obtained by Naija News confirmed that Alaiya died in his village in Benin, Edo State.

However, the cause of the sports journalist’s death remains unknown as at the time his sudden demise was announced.

Naija News understands that until his death, Alaiya was the Editor-in-Chief of SportsDay Newspapers.

Confirming Alaiya’s demise in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, October 6, the Director of Football, Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS), Ilorin, Aloy Chukwuemeka, wrote “Seasoned Sports Journalist, respected sports Editor and former Media Officer of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Ben Alaiya is Dead.

“Shocking and painful. May his soul rest in peace”

Also expressing his feeling about the death of the sports pundit, a Sports Writer, Arabi Rotimi took to his Facebook page and wrote: “Sad to believe that a senior colleague (Former sports editor of Daily independent, Former media officer of Super Eagles, an executive management team of Sportsday newspaper Ben Alaiya is no more. Rip Ever smiling boss.”

The deceased who hailed from Ososo in Edo State, was born on December 9, 1968.

Ben Alaiya obtained his first degree in English Language from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and also earned a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Naija News understands.
