‘It looks like a one-horse race’ say bookies as money pours in for Aidan O’Brien superstar

BOOKIES have been flooded with cash for an Aidan O’Brien superstar who is turning one of the season’s biggest contests into a ‘one-horse race’.

The layers reported lots of money for stayer Kyprios for Ascot’s Gold Cup ahead of his seasonal return on Friday.

Multiple Group 1 winner Kyprios is 1-6 to make it a winning comeback at Leopardstown when he lines up in a 1m6f contest under Ryan Moore.

But with those odds of little appeal, punters have been piling into him for the season’s big staying contest.

Kyprios won the 2022 Gold Cup but missed last year’s due to injury.

He swept all before him two seasons ago, adding the Goodwood Gold Cup, Irish St Leger and Prix Du Cadran to his CV before needing almost a year off.

Kyprios made his seasonal bow with an easy Listed success at Navan last month and punters are backing him like he is a good thing for the big race next month.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Kyprios put in one of the best staying campaigns we’ve ever seen in 2022 and confidence is growing amongst punters that he’s going to have a season to remember again this year.

“Looking at our liabilities for the Ascot Gold Cup, it almost looks like a one-horse race.”

Kyprios is just 5-4 for the Gold Cup and his price will likely shorten with success on Friday.

Willie Mullins is one man who is desperate to stop him though.

He is launching his ‘summer assault’ on the Flat on Friday when Vauban runs in the Yorkshire Cup on the final day of the Dante meeting.

The former Triumph hurdle king was brilliant last season and had been backed massively to win the Melbourne Cup only to flop on the big day.

He is currently 7-1 for the Ascot Gold Cup, the same price as last year’s winner Courage Mon Ami and O’Brien’s Tower Of London.

5-4 Kyprios
7-1 Tower Of London, Courage Mon Ami, Vauban
