Hearts of Oak to defend their MTN FA Cup trophy in Kumasi

Accra Hearts of Oak and Bechem United have booked a final in the MTN FA Cup final after winning their respective semi final games. This would be an opportunity for the Rainbow team to defend their trophy won last season.

The Phobians beat Obuasi Ashgold on penalties to win the MTN FA Cup last season. This time they face Bechem United.

Hearts played on the first semi final on Saturday May 14, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium. They beat Dreams FC 3-2 in a tight game. Three different scorers were on target for the Phobians; Afriyie Barnieh, Suraju Mohammed and Benjamin York scored for Hearts.

Dreams got their two goals through Simba Sylvester and his compatriot Karikari. Dreams got a very good start when they registered the first goal under just 6 minutes of play. They failed to hold unto the lead and allowed Hearts to get back into the game. Benjamin Yorke got an equalizer for Hearts before the half time break.

Both teams got two more goals in the second half. The game was pushed into extra time with Hearts registering their third goal to end the game 3-2 for Hearts.

Bechem United had a relatively less opposition as they beat Aduana FC 2-0 at Bechem in an interesting game. The scores did not actually reflect the true story in the game as Aduana failed to get a goal from their numerous chances created.

The Hunters got their goals through Emmanuel Avornyo and Augustine Okrah. the latter stole the attention of the day after scoring a sublime freekick for Bechem’s second goal.

This final would be Bechem’s second appearance. The Bono based club won the trophy in 2016 after defeating Okwahu United 2-1 in the final.

Bechem and Hearts will lock horns on 24th June, 2022.
