Spanish club, Barcelona has expressed their frustration about their inability to get French professional football player, Ousmane Dembele to sign a new deal.

This is as Barcelona chief executive officer Mateu Alemany declared on Thursday that the club is looking at selling Dembele before January 31st as it has become obvious the player is no longer interested in playing for them.

Naija News understands Barcelona and representatives of Dembele have been locked in months of battle at the negotiating table and with his contract due to expire at the end of the summer, both parties have been unable to agree on a new contract.

Frustrated by this development, the La Liga giants have now confirmed on Thursday that they have told Dembele he has to leave immediately.

Alemany added that the 24-year-old player will be sold in January instead of allowing him to leave for free when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

“It’s clear that Dembele does not want to continue with Barcelona. He doesn’t want to be part of our project,” the club’s chief executive officer Mateu Alemany said on Thursday.

“We told Dembélé he has to leave immediately. We expect Ousmane to be sold before Jan 31.”

The French international began his career at Rennes before joining Dortmund in 2016.

A year later, he transferred to Barcelona for an initial fee of €105 million, becoming at the time the joint-second most expensive footballer ever alongside compatriot Paul Pogba.

His time in Spain has been riddled with injuries but the player still managed to win both the La Liga and Copa del Rey during his first season in Spain.
