Fans took to social media to vent their frustrations at the decision.
One said: ” MGW robbed for sure, PL signing of the season and u21 captain what more does he need to do.?”
Another commented: ” MGW absolutely robbed and not even club bias, absolute joke.”
A third tweeted: ” I’m sorry how the f*** is Gallagher ahead of MGW, he has been robbed in broad daylight.”
A fourth added: ” Phillips doesn’t even play, MGW has been robbed.!”
It wasn’t just the omission of Gibbs White that fans were outraged by some couldn’t believe Aston Villa duo Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins were also overlooked.
One said: “How the f*** have Ramsey and Watkins not made it.?”
Another commented: Ramsey and Watkins have to be in that England Squad, further evidence that Southgate is a clown and isn’t serious.”
A third added: ” How Watkins and Ramsey haven’t been called up for England I’ll never know.”
Southgate handed a first senior call up to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and recalled defenders Tyrone Mings and Lewis Dunk who last featured back in 2018.
England head into these qualifiers sitting top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group after beating Italy and Ukraine in their opening matches.
