Eriksen Joins Brentford On Six-month Deal After Cardiac Arrest

Premier League newcomers, Brentford have confirmed the signing of Danish international, Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old has signed a short-term deal at the Brentford Community Stadium which will see him play until the end of the season.

Eriksen has not played professionally since he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland last summer.

The former Tottenham man received life-saving treatment on the pitch before being taken to hospital and was fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) device.

He left Inter by mutual consent before Christmas after rules in Italy prevented him from playing with an ICD and has been training with third-tier Swiss club FC Chiasso as he looks to build up his fitness.

However, after passing medical checks, Eriksen has been given the all clear to start his career again in the Premier League.

Eriksen, who has 109 caps and scored 36 goals for Denmark, already shares a good relationship with Thomas Frank and the Bees boss admits he cannot wait to see what Eriksen brings to his side.

In a video posted to Brentford’s social media, Eriksen said: “Hi everyone, it’s Christian Eriksen.

“I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed for Brentford Football Club and I can’t wait to get started. Hopefully, I’ll see you all very soon.”

Reacting to Eriksen’s move, Brentford manager, Thomas Frank says he is looking forward to working with Eriksen again, adding that the midfielder will impact the club positively.

Frank also praised the club for seizing ‘unbelievable opportunity to sign a world class player.

He said: “I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then.

“Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.

“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world class player to Brentford.

“He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own.

“He is fit but we will need to get him to match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.”
