Chelsea transfer target Alexis Vega breaks down in tears during Mexico national anthem ahead of Poland World Cup clash

EMOTIONAL Alexis Vega broke down in tears during Mexico’s passionate national anthem.

The Guadalajara star – and Chelsea transfer target – lined up with his team-mates at the 974 Stadium for their World Cup opener with Poland.

Vega was making his tournament debut in attack.

But before the action got underway, the anthems proved a bit much for the winger.

As the camera panned along the Mexico XI, Vega was welling up and a tear rolling down his cheek while he belted out the rendition.

The 24-year-old was not only joined by his ten fellow starters, subs and coaching staff but by thousands of Mexican fans who swarmed to the Doha venue.

And those watching on at home threw their support behind the forward, too.

One said: “Beautiful scenes during the intonation of the Mexican anthem. Alexis Vega in tears, alongside with many of the fans.”

Another added: “Alexis Vega crying to the anthem is the passion we need in this team.”

A third commented: “Alexis Vega in tears making ME wanna cry.”

And a final user wrote: “Alexis Vega crying during the national anthem got me crying – I hope he scores.”

Vega came close to breaking the deadlock with 26 minutes played.

But his back-post header went just wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s goal.

Vega broke through with boyhood club Toluca and is now tearing it up for Guadalajara.

The 2019 Gold Cup winner, who is also a two-time Liga MX all star, has 24 goals in 121 games for his club side.

And it is that form that has seen Chelsea and Brighton take interest in the attacker, with the Seagulls eyeing him as a possible replacement if Leandro Trossard leaves the Amex.

A strong World Cup and there may be plenty more European sides clamouring for his signature in January.
