Charles’ coronation could clash with biggest Royal winner ever as King’s horse is fancied to land £500,000 race
KING CHARLES’ coronation on May 6 could clash with the biggest winner the Royal Family has ever seen on the racetrack.
Three-year-old colt Slipofthepen is currently 25-1 to land the prestigious 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on the same day.

The race is the first big Classic of the year and has been a stepping stone to greatness for many including Frankel, Sea The Stars and Rock Of Gibraltar.
It is also one of the richest, with a £500,000 prize fund and more than £283,000 going to the winner.
The biggest winner the late Queen ever saddled was Estimate’s 2013 Gold Cup win at Royal Ascot worth £198,486.
Should the John and Thady Gosden-trained Slipofthepen win in May then Charles would eclipse his late mum’s biggest win by well over £80,000.
Slipofthepen has raced only once in his career.
He was sent off 5-6 favourite for a five-and-a-half length win on debut at Kempton last November.

Jockey James Doyle, who won the 1000 and 2000 Guineas last year, was in the saddle.
And he said afterwards: “Slipofthepen is a pretty smart horse.
“He travelled super through the race and he made up a fair bit of ground in a matter of strides.
“It was difficult conditions in the fog with the lights shining – hopefully he has a bright future.”
Slipofthepen was bred by the late Queen herself and, while at the moment it looks a long shot, could turn out to be the horse for the race she famously never won.
Horses who win the 2000 Guineas sometimes go onto tackle the Epsom Derby.
And Slipofthepen is being spoken of as a potential challenger for that £1.6million showstopper should things fall into place.
But that June race is a while off yet and it remains to be seen if the horse will even be targeted towards the Guineas first.
It’s worth pointing out, though, that Slipofthepen’s sire, Night Of Thunder, won the 2000 Guineas in 2014.
And a step up to 1m4f – the trip in the Derby – from the mile of the Guineas should be within his compass.
King Charles – who is planning some changes to the traditional coronation – has enjoyed a fairly successful life to racehorse ownership since inheriting his late mum’s multi-million pound operation.
His biggest winner so far was the £28,355 Perfect Alibi got for landing a Listed race at Yarmouth last October.
