Carabao Cup Confirmed Semi-Final Draws
The draws for the semi-final pairings in the Carabao cup tournament has been confirmed on Wednesday after the conclusion of the quarter-final games.
Naija News reports Manchester United and Manchester City will face off in the next stage of the competition which makes it the second straight time both teams will confront each other at this stage of the competition.
In the other semi-final clash, Tottenham Hotspurs will trade tackles with Brentford, a team outside the Premier League.
To get to this stage of the competition, Manchester City comprehensively beat Arsenal 4-1 on Tuesday, Manchester United also defeated Everton 2-0.
For Tottenham, they defeated Stoke City 3-1 while Brentford beat Newcastle 1-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the cup competition.
The semi-finals will be played in the week commencing January 4 at the Wembley Stadium and will be over one-leg this season as against the usual two legs.
Meanwhile, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has scored his team’s 644th goal for Barcelona making him the highest goal scorer for a single club in history.
That means Messi has set a new record in the world of club football, surpassing former Brazilian football star Pele, who holds the record for most goals scored by a player with 643 goals for his club Sao Paulo.
Messi, 33, has made 749 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 644 goals.
