Cape Coast hosts African Athletics Championship

The Cape Coast Sports Stadium is the host for the 2022 African Athletics Region II Championship. The event brings together some countries with the designated region.

Ghana is the host nation with Mali, Benin, Cote D’voire, Niger and Senegal in attendance. Others are Sierra Leone. Togo and Liberia. The Championship takes place in the next three days starting today May 19, 2022 and it will end on May 21, 2022.

The Participating teams were all present for the opening ceremony that took place today in Cape Coast. It would serve as a a combined competition for both U – 18 and U-20 athletes within the specified region.

The competition would also serve as qualification to the World Athletics U-20 Championship. This will also take place in Cali, Columbia. It will start on August 2nd, 2022.

North African Region have already held theirs in Tunis with Central African countries meeting in Kinshasa. Both took place in April.

Africa’s Athletics Body, Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has also confirmed that the Senior level competition will take place in June in Mauritius.

The World Athletics Diamond League will also take place in June in Moroccan capital of Rabat.
