C.K Akonnor must have his peace to work- Former GFA Veep warns against interference

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has warned against interference in player selection at the national team.The ex-GFA presidential candidate insists the top hierarchy of the federation should allow coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor do his work in peace without imposing players on him.Early this month GFA President, Kurt Okraku revealed that the coach is not solely responsible for player selection into the team, leaving many worried by the level of interference in the team.Call-ups for all national teams go through processes, and people must understand this, Okraku told Joy FM. “Gone are the days when one person will wake up one day and name a national team, it will never happen again,” he added.The coach and his team will work with the technical directorate to select a squad, then they have to convince the Management Committee about the squad they have selected. Then there is a meeting some I may attend, others I may select someone to represent me. When there is a consensus, the squad is then announced.”But George Afriyie, who was once management team chairman of the Black Stars disclosed during his time, there was no way either him or ex-President Kwesi Nyantakyi would impose players on any coach.We should take away favoritism, this one belongs here so don’t call him and that one belong there so don’t call him, it will not help the Black Stars,” Afriyie told Joy FM. “And these are some of the reasons why people will call for us to have a white man as coach.Since we have opted to have one of our own, let us leave him to work and give him all the support.C.K Akonnor must have his peace to work.
