For some unexplained reasons, organizers have announced that the international friendly between Brazil and Argentina scheduled for Melbourne, Australia, in June would no longer hold.

The match, Naija News understands had earlier been scheduled for play on June 11, 2022.

The friendly match was earlier planned as a warm-up for Brazil as it prepares for the Qatar 2022 World Cup in the next few weeks.

A notification, however, handed down on Wednesday evening by the event organisers and the Brazilian federation has confirmed the game is off because Argentina is not ready for the trip.

The statement read partly: “Regrettably, event organisers have been informed by Pitch, the Superclasico June 11, 2022, match agent, that contrary to their prior agreement and commitment to do so, Argentina are no longer prepared to travel to Australia for the match against Brazil.”

Brazil and Argentina had last played a Superclasico at the MCG five years ago.

The match was witnessed by more than 95,000 fans, Naija News understands.

The Argentine federation, however, has not commented on the latest development.

In another news, President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has confirmed that a new head coach for the country’s senior national team will be announced latest Thursday, May 12.

Naija News reports that the Super Eagles have been without a full-time manager since December 2021, following the sacking of Gernot Rohr and Nigerians have been waiting for a new manager to be announced.

Reports say officials of the NFF are keen on signing Portuguese Jose Peseiro, who previously coached Venezuela, while the ministry wants more coaches interviewed for the job, to select the best for the three-time African champions.
