BAYANA BAYANA OF SOUTH AFRICA WIN WOMEN’S TEAM OF THE YEAR

South Africa have been crowned the newest champions of women’s football in Africa. They met the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in finals of the African Women’s Cup of Nations.

The South African’s were able to defy all odds of home advantage to defeat the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco 2-1. The final was played today in the presence of 50,000 spectators at the Complex Sportif Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.

Morocco played in front of their home crowed as host but were not able to go pass the spirited South Africans for the trophy.

Bayana Bayana went two nil up after 71 minutes of play. Morocco pulled one back on the 80th minute. The first half had ended goalless.

The Bayana Bayana have also been named the Women’s National Team of the Year 2022 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The category was left out by CAF to be decided after the AWCON final.

Coach Ellis Desiree of South Africa has crowned her award as the Women’s Coach of the year with this win. It is her third attempt at the final and South Africa’s sixth attempt to win in a whole.

Morocco’s Chizaline Chebak was also named player of the tournament and Andille Dlamini of South Africa also won the goalkeeper of the tournament.
