Ballon d’Or 2021: Messi Leads Chart As Ranking Shows Top 3 Contenders
A new football ranking has revealed former FC Barcelona captain now Paris Saint-Germain player, Lionel Messi, as the possible winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or.
Two English Premier League players, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante who both play for Chelsea were respectively ranked second and third on the power ranking behind the Argentine footballer, Naija News reports according to Fansided power ranking.
Messi had won six Ballon D’or with Barcelona and could claim the most coveted individual award again with the Ligue 1 side.
Unless the two Blues both make outstanding performance this season, Messi will most likely collect his seventh Ballon d’Or to space his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, and assert his legacy as the greatest of all time.
Naija News understands that Jorginho and Kante are both deserving of the prestigious award having made breathtaking performances recently. The duo had both helped Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League last season.
Jorginho on his part emerged as the top scorer for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Kante on the other side had amazing performances lately in the Premier League and in the UEFA Champions League.
Kante who at some points suffered an injury last season unarguably did well for Chelsea in the knock-out stages of the UCL competition. He even won three consecutive MOTM awards, two against Los Blancos and one against the Citizens.
Meanwhile, Chelsea has joined Manchester United in the race for Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez.
Naija News understands that the English Premier League rivals are both keen on signing the Spanish professional footballer, but Chelsea according to findings are hopeful of completing Niguez’s move this summer to boost their midfield.
Thomas Tuchel is looking forward to including Niguez in his squad and add him to his first-team plans for this season.
