Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng has disclosed that Asamoah Gyan is a good friend as he reacted to the striker’s comments about returning to the national team for the 2022 World Cup.Boateng, who is Black Stars assistant coach, said the technical team won’t make a public statement until after speaking with the player and has nothing to say publicly about the hot topic.Gyan, who has scored 51 goals for Ghana, disclosed last month that he has unfinished business with the national team and is hoping for a return ahead of the Qatar tournament.The 36-year-old has not played for the Black Stars since 2019, and his career has stagnated since returning to Ghana. He hasn’t played a competitive match in over a year.”We’ve so much respect for Asamoah Gyan as a player and as a person, he’s a very good friend of mine and what he has done for Ghana is amazing. Record goalscorer, six goals at the World Cup it’s amazing,” Boateng said. “You can only applaud his achievements however, on this topic, I think out of respect for the player and the friend of mine as a person, I will prefer to discuss this issue with him in person rather than sharing with the outside world,” he added.
