ANDY MURRAY produced the greatest fightback of his illustrious 18-year career to reach the Australian Open third round — at 4.05am in the morning!

The Scot, 35, summoned all of his superhuman qualities to come from two sets down to shock Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis 4-6 6-7 7-6 6-3 7-5 in a truly memorable event on Melbourne Park.

This utterly enthralling, can’t-take-your-eyes-off-it contest officially took five hours and 45 minutes – the longest time he has ever spent on a tennis court.

It was the latest finish he had experienced as a professional, surpassing the 3.02am end that he had in Washington several years back.

Incredibly, the two-time Wimbledon champion found enough resolve and perseverance to keep hitting winners and trading blows with the South Australian well into the small hours of the morning.

It was a terrific encounter with both men giving everything that they could and more than 500 punters remained until the final stages on the Margaret Court Arena to salute these warriors.

If you thought his five-set heroics against Matteo Berrettini last Tuesday were special then this completely blew that away.

Murray said: “I don’t know how I did that. It is unbelievable that I managed to turn it around.

“Thanasi hit his forehand huge, I don’t know how I got through that. I played better as the match went on. Yeah, I have a big heart.

“I have done it before from two sets down, I rely on that experience, drive and fight and love of the game and competing and respect for this event and competition.
