AC Milan win first Scudetto after a decade
AC Milan have been crowned new winners of the Italian Serie A for the 2021/2022 League Season. They had to wait till the last round of matches before claiming the title ahead of city rivals Inter Milan.
The Rossoneris beat US Sassulo 3-0 away at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday to win their 19th Scuddeto. Olivier Giroud was the hero of the night as he scored a brace. Ivory Coast midfielder, Franck Kessie also scored the third goal.
All goals came in the first half. Before the last round of matches, Milan were a point ahead of rivals Inter. Meanwhile Inter Milan were playing at home to UD Sampdoria. They won 3-0 at the San Siro but it was too little too late for them to surpass AC Milan.
The goals were score in the second half. Ivan Perisic and Joaqin Correa (2) were on the scoring sheet for Milan. After all the 38 leagues matches, Milan won with 86 points with Inter settling up with 84 points.
They last won the league trophy in the 2010/2011 season and have undergone so many challenges to have come this far.
Milan have undergone series of changes after their last Scudetto win in 2011. The club faced challenges in various forms; from financial to human resource. But the changes in management have made a positive impact on the team.
Coach Stefano Pioli assembled a squad of experienced and young players mixed in a prudent way.
