LIVERPOOL WIN 16TH FA COMMUNITY SHIELD AFTER 16 YEARS

Liverpool Football Club have won the FA Community Shield after missing out for sixteen (16) years. The Reds beat Manchester City 3-1 at the Kings Power Stadium. This would be their 16th Community Shield win.

The FA Community Shield is a competition between winners of the English Premier League and FA Cup. Liverpool won the FA Cup and EFL Cup in 2021/22 season whereas Manchester City won the English Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp becomes the coach after Raphael Benitez to help win the season’s curtain raiser for Liverpool. The Reds last won in 2006.This adds to their already won two trophies in the year.

Liverpool have enjoyed quiet a tremendous year of great performance. The lost the league to City by a difference of one point on the last day and then lost by a lone goal to Real Madrid in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

In 2006, they beat Cheslea 2-1 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff to win the shield. All efforts to reclaim the shield have failed. They lost to Manchester City in 2019 and also to Arsenal in 2020.

Meanwhile Manchester City have also lost their second consecutive title in the one-off match. They were beaten by a goal by Leicester City last season and failed to redeem themselves this season.

Liverpool now joins Arsenal at second spot for most win after claiming their 16th trophy. The goals were scored by Alexander Arnold, Mohammed Salah and new star Darwin Nunez. Julian Alvarez scored Manchester City’s only goal.
